On 11 April The British Furniture Confederation (BFC) released a statement about the use of fire retardant chemicals in furniture. You can read the full statement here.

In addition, members of the Furniture Industry Research Association may wish to view our ‘The-potential-impact-of-flame-retardants-on-the-end-of-life-of-upholstered-furniture-and-furnishings’ document which was published in November 2015.

The 48 page publication includes an introduction to fire retardants, alongside sections on FR chemicals and their uses, chemicals impacted by legislation, end of life disposal and recycling, flame retardants currently in use and impacted by waste and disposal legislation, waste management considerations of hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) and labelling systems.
