Furniture Industry accepted definitions and information on how specific sustainability parameters should be calculated, plus a review of the state of recycling for the UK industry, so that recyclability claims can be meaningful and achievable
Highlights:
To comply with requests in contract tenders, furniture manufacturers are increasingly providing technical data on the sustainability aspects of the products they supply. This data will include the material composition, embedded carbon, recycled content, and the recyclability of the product and its components at the end of life.
For this data to be used to make decisions and report sustainability impact, the information must be presented in an understandable form, not misleading, and using the same calculation basis so that fair comparisons can be made between products.
European Standards provide guidance on the general nature of sustainability claims. However, this document defines the most commonly used terms and discusses how they should be used to communicate within the furniture industry.
