FISP Introduces New Certification Category to Support SKA Rating 2.0

The Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP) has launched a new certification module—FISP (S) Criteria—to align with the updated SKA Rating Office Environmental 2.0, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability across the UK furniture sector.

Established in 2006, FISP is a recognised furniture industry scheme offering cross-recognition with other schemes. The SKA Rating, widely used to assess the environmental impact of non-domestic fit-outs, has historically included FISP certification as a compliance criterion for furniture.

With the 2025 release of SKA Rating 2.0, the scheme now emphasises product-specific certification and circular economy principles. In response, FISP collaborated with SKA to ensure continued relevance.

The new FISP (S) Criteria introduces requirements for Eco-design, End-of-Life strategies, and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). It also promotes the availability of remanufactured or second-life products, helping businesses meet evolving sustainability goals.

FISP Membership is open to businesses of all sizes across the furniture supply chain.
