Defra Consultation on Government Buying Standards - Have Your Say

Defra has announced a review of the Government Buying Standards (GBS) for furniture and textiles, aiming to strengthen sustainability in public procurement. GBS are designed to help government departments and associated organisations consider environmental and social impacts while ensuring value for money. Compliance with these minimum mandatory standards is required across all government procurement activities.
As part of the review, Defra is conducting an online consultation survey, and we strongly encourage members to participate and share their views. The deadline for responses is Monday, 6 October 2025.

Key Areas of Focus in the Review:
- Second-life content: Promoting the use of recycled and repurposed materials
- Ecolabels: Encouraging recognised certifications for sustainable products
- Circularity performance requirements: Supporting products designed for reuse, repair, and recycling
