REACH - Potential Further Restriction of Formaldehyde

Following a European Commission, ECHA has started preparing a restriction dossier on the use of formaldehyde and its releasers in articles and in mixtures in concentration <0.1% by consumers. ECHA has made an entry in the Registry of Intentions (RoI) with an anticipated submission date of 11 January 2019.

New 'Compliance Scheme for the Fire Performance of Upholstered Furniture'

The new Compliance Scheme has been in operation for a month, and the first two companies to gain Certified Company status are confirmed as retailers ScS and DFS. We're also hosting an event with Hertfordshire Trading Standards on 8 February so those from across the furniture supply chain can learn more about the new scheme.

Advances in the substitution of Hazardous Flame Retardants In Home Textiles

FIRA recently attended a meeting in Brussels that outlined the scope of an EU funded project promoting research into reducing the negative impacts of flame retardants used in the textile industry by the adoption of “alternative” flame retardant treatments.

Global Circularity Report Published

A recently published report by Circle Economy was launched at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Much of the report focuses on a new “Global Circularity Metric” which demonstrates how the prevailing linear economic models are failing people and the environment.
