On Wednesday 11th January, FIRA joined approximately 20 other industry stakeholders at a PEFC UK workshop in London to discuss sustainable forestry and receive an update on PEFC scheme coverage and work that is underway to update the PEFC standard.

A heavily amended British Standard for kitchen furniture has been published.
BS 6222-2: 2009 + A1: 2017 Domestic kitchen equipment. Part 2: Fitted kitchen units, peninsular units, island units and breakfast bars – Performance requirements and test methods, is the main British Standard for assessing the strength, durability and suitability of kitchen carcases, wall units and associated hardware for both domestic and social housing use.

The EU’s Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Regulation establishes rules for the import of timber products covered by Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs) between the EU and timber-exporting countries. Once VPAs are fully implemented, timber-exporting countries will issue FLEGT licences which verify the timber’s legality.
