FIRA can announce that BSI have published two new European Standards for non-domestic furniture:
The latest version of FIRA's guide to specifying furniture is now available. The guide, which is free to Members of The Association, will assist specifiers in the tender process when acquiring contract or domestic furniture. It also acts as a guide for manufacturers and suppliers looking to satisfy a specifier’s requirements.
The EU’s Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Regulation establishes rules for the import of timber products covered by Voluntary Partnership Agreements (VPAs) between the EU and timber-exporting countries. Once VPAs are fully implemented, timber-exporting countries will issue FLEGT licences which verify the timber’s legality.
FIRA international are part of the consultation process for the proposed ISO timber specific chain of custody standard with the UK British Standards Institute Technical Subcommittee. The proposed standard was designed to increase the amount of sustainable forestry under management, encouraging smaller scale forest owners into sustainable forest management, by adopting a country verified chain of custody for timber and timber products.
