Two new European Furniture Standards published

As indicated in October FIRA can now announce that two new European Standards for furniture have been published:

BS EN 12520:2015 Furniture - Strength, durability and safety - Requirements for domestic seating

This replaces the 2010 version of this standard with immediate effect. The changes to the document are minimal, purely reflecting an update of the test method standard for seating - EN 1728: 2012. This should mean that there are no major issues with assessing product that has previously passed the original version to the new Standard

BS EN 12521: 2015 Furniture - Strength, durability and safety - Requirements for domestic tables

This replaces the 2009 version of this standard with immediate effect. As with EN 12520 the changes to the document are minimal, purely reflecting an update of the test method standard for tables – EN 1730: 2012. Again, this should mean that there are no major issues with assessing product that has previously passed the original version to the new Standard.

FIRA can assess product to these new standards with immediate effect.
