​Revised standard for office desks approved

FIRA has been informed that a revision of the standard for office desks,
EN 527-2 Office furniture. Work tables and desks. Mechanical safety requirements, has been approved at Formal Vote stage.

This is the final stage before publication and it can be expected that the standard will be published within the next 6 months. On publication the current 2002 version will be withdrawn. It is also expected that the test method standard, BS EN 527-2: 2003 Office furniture. Work tables and desks. Methods of test for the determination of the stability and the mechanical strength of the structure, will be withdrawn.

The main changes within the standard are updated references to the test method standard BS EN 1730: 2012 and the introduction of a durability test for height adjustable desking.
