FIRA's Q3 2026 Statistics Digest is out now. It brings together the latest official data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to give a clear picture of the UK furniture industry's performance, along with the structural trends shaping it.

This edition adds comprehensive 2025 manufacturing data by product, from the ONS Prodcom series, and finalised 2024 production data by activity. These build on the 2025 consumer spending and trade figures published in the spring edition.

Key findings:

•    Consumer spending is growing again. Household spending on furniture and furnishings rose 3.2% to £20.15bn in 2025, reversing two years of decline.
•    Manufacturer sales held steady. UK manufacturer sales of furniture products were flat at £7.34bn. Kitchen furniture grew 5% to £2.44bn, while mattress sales fell 4.4% to £798m, their lowest level in five years.
•    The trade gap remains wide. Imports reached £10.45bn against exports of £3.4bn, a deficit of £7.05bn. China accounts for 40% of all UK furniture imports. Imports from Vietnam grew 16.2%, the fastest of any major source.
•    Employment has fallen. Furniture manufacturers employ 72,000 people, 17,000 fewer than in 2021.
