January Furniture Show - Reasons To Be Cheerful
Taking place at the NEC in Birmingham from 20th - 23rd January 2019, over 500 exhibitors - mainly from the UK, will launch thousands of new products in furniture, lighting, flooring, accessories and soft furnishings.
Buyers may be in ebullient mood as the retail value of the UK’s furniture and lighting trade and was over £14 billion in 2017, a two percent increase on the year before. The total value of UK’s furniture, beds and furnishings manufacturing industry was worth over £17 billion (includes materials and services) and it continues to rise with an increased number of new houses being built nationwide - over 160,000 registered with the NHBC (National House Building Council) in 2017. (Figures supplied by the BFM, ONS and NHBC.)
Mattresses and beds saw a growth of 5% in 2017 and lead the way in increasing retail sales. Upholstery is the next sector to see growth with companies like Alstons experiencing an increase of 4% in 2017. Cabinet is the least well performing but many companies who are exhibiting at JFS such as VIDA Living and Baker are experiencing improved cabinet sales. (Figures from HMRC and the ONS.)
Furniture manufacturing in the UK is in the top three areas of manufacturing growth according to Government statistics and as the UK’s largest annual furniture event, JFS is the prime source of furniture and furnishing products for retailers and buyers from all sectors of the market - volume, mid and high-end.
