FIRA International have seen their United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) testing accreditation expanded following a scheduled four year re-assessment.
UKAS’s role is to assess organisations, such as FIRA International, that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services. Their full re-assessment of FIRA International was part of a four year accreditation cycle to ensure a high level of testing standards and working practices are maintained. Surveillance visits are then carried out on an annual basis.
The main change to FIRA International’s schedule of testing sees the re-introduction of textiles within the accreditation. In May 2016, following some staff changes, the team at FIRA International decided to voluntarily withdraw their textiles accreditation. With a new team in place for the last few months, and with the UKAS audit planned the organisation opted to reapply for accreditation.
UKAS also accredited FIRA International to test to the latest standards across structures, flammability and finishes.
Speaking on the broadened accreditation, Phil Reynolds, General Manager at FIRA International said “this UKAS accreditation provides our clients with an assurance of the competence, impartiality and integrity of FIRA International when we undertake a test on their behalf.
Darren Hone, FIRA International’s Quality Manager, and the rest of the team worked hard during the UKAS audit to demonstrate our expertise when testing to set standards. I was very proud of our entire testing team when we received confirmation that our UKAS accreditation would once again include textiles, as this helps to underpin our wider portfolio of testing services.”
FIRA International also confirmed that for April 2018 they are aiming to be further accredited to test to a further 9 standards, some of which are currently in ‘draft’ status.
FIRA also host regular Open Days which include a behind the scenes tour of the UKAS accredited facilities. The session taking place in October is currently at full capacity, but anyone interested in being allocated a place on the waiting list should email firstname.lastname@example.org. FIRA recently released details of the 2018 Open Day, however early booking is advised.
