FIRA Publish Final Lean Training Toolkit - Value Stream Mapping

The Furniture Industry Research Association has released the ninth and final part of its Lean Manufacturing Training Toolkit - Value Stream Mapping. Available free to members, the toolkit provides valuable resources for effectively conducting value stream mapping training with a team of employees.

The Lean principle of Value Stream Mapping (VSM) offers a common language for discussing manufacturing processes. It helps visualise everything that enters a business and the series of actions required to transform a product from raw materials into a deliverable item for the customer.

The benefits of Value Stream Mapping include:

• The ability to see multiple flows instead of just single flows
• Quantification of inventory
• Identification of sources of waste rather than waste within one process
• Establishment of a connection between information flow and material flow
• Integration of Lean concepts and techniques
