Over 150 delegates joined the British Standards Institute in the launch of ISO 20400 which provides guidance for organisations seeking to implement and improve their sustainable procurement practices.

BS ISO 20400:2017 Sustainable procurement guidance was developed by a committee of international experts from 37 participating countries with the aim of promoting sustainability objectives in supply chains through the adoption of sustainable procurement policies and practices. The desired outcome of this standard is that the guidance it provides will lead organisations to exert influence and help their supply chains act in a more responsible and sustainable manner.

Tremendous opportunities exist to further sustainability thinking through procurement as organisations have an opportunity to exert influence over their supply chain partners.

Between 40 and 80% of an organisation’s revenue is spent in the supply chain, meaning suppliers are likely to listen to what their customers want.
