British Standard for kitchen furniture under review

The main British Standard for assessing the surface finish performance of worktops, frontal and kitchen carcases is currently undergoing a full review and you can influence this process.

The standard in question is BS 6222-3 Domestic kitchen equipment. Part 3: Performance requirements for durability of surface finish and adhesion of surfacing and edging materials – Specification. The current version of this standard has been in circulation since 1999 and since its introduction there have been numerous developments in both materials and testing regimes. As such the standard is being fully revised and is available for public comment on the BSI website. Any interested party can sign in and make comments on the proposals so as to influence the shape of the standard moving forward.
