Dr. Pete Beele, FIRA Technical Development Manager
FIRA's Technical Services Manager, Dr. Pete Beele, is responsible for overseeing the Technical Services team. He is also a member of the Furniture Industry Research Association Council.
Pete has a broad range of technical expertise alongside which, he understands business dynamics, with a particular emphasis on how these impact on the furniture sector. Specialist areas include competitiveness and statistics, supply chain and product certification, EU Timber Regulation, furniture exporting, wood technology, carbon footprinting of furniture, lean manufacturing and other environmental legislation.
Working in a variety of areas within FIRA and BM TRADA, including running the testing, research and consultancy divisions, Pete has a unique spectrum of expertise and knowledge of the furniture and timber industries. His current role involves developing and managing the technical offerings for Association members, coordinating the provision of technical services for suppliers, manufacturers and retailers, and identifying research programmes and funding sources to support the commercial and technical development of furniture companies. His team represents the industry on British, European and International Standards committees, influencing decisions to ensure Standards are meaningful and relevant.
Pete is Chairman of the British Standards Institute's (BSI) Furniture Steering Committee, Secretary of the British Furniture Confederation (BFC), an Advisory Board Member for the National School of Furniture and has represented the industry on a range of environmental steering groups such as PAS 2021 for the EU Timber Regulation, recycling and re-use.
