Course Title: Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility-
Course description:

The concepts of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development are commanding increased attention in the UK. Those companies that have already embraced CSR are seeing the benefits of committing to environmental, social and economic improvements.

FIRA International is running workshops to introduce the concept of CSR to the furniture and associated industries.

The UK Government already views CSR as the business contribution to the UK’s sustainable development goals and states that CSR is about how business takes account of its economic, social and environmental impacts in the way it operates – maximising the benefits and minimising the downsides.

Specifically, the Government sees CSR as the voluntary actions that business can take, over and above compliance with minimum legal requirements, to address both its own competitive interests and the interests of wider society.

The Government is already putting into practice what it preaches by declaring at the World Summit on Sustainable Development "that the £13billion worth of goods and services we buy every year will be sustainable".

Whether you are a supplier to Government or not, you should be starting to consider the benefits to your business, suppliers, customers and staff of good CSR practice.

The FIRA workshop will help you to get started and explain the benefits that will result in a competitive advantage for your company in the market place. This course is equally relevant for directors, environmental managers, purchasing managers and marketing managers.

The half-day course will also introduce you to:

  • Government policies – Procuring the Future
  • Furniture Industry Sustainability Programme (FISP)
  • AA 1000 Assurance Standard
  • BS 8900:2006 – Guidance for managing sustainable development
  • Environmental Reporting
