Notes on Standard
The new standard is a harmonised European standard, and therefore test results should be accepted across Europe. The standard covers all types of domestic tables including dining tables, coffee tables, lamp tables and glass tables. The Standard also features two test regimes - one for standard tables (e.g. dining tables) and one for low or small tables (e.g. coffee tables and lamp tables).
Status changes within next 12 months
The new standard replaces BS 4875-5: 2009 and BS 7376: 2009 which are now withdrawn. While the new standard still has similar strength durability and stability requirements contained within the withdrawn documents it adds some additional safety requirements. The Standard also features two test regimes - one for standard tables (e.g. dining tables) and one for low or small tables (e.g. coffee tables and lamp tables).
