Testing – Formaldehyde
Many of the board materials used to manufacture furniture contain formaldehyde-based resins. Almost all of this formaldehyde remains bonded within the structure of the manufactured boards. However, there is a very small amount that is classified as “free formaldehyde”. Strict limits are placed on the acceptable levels of free formaldehyde (measured in parts per million) and FIRA has testing facilities that are capable of detecting these low levels. Companies use FIRA as part of their quality control procedures and to accumulate third party evidence that they comply with the appropriate European Standards.
