Ergonomics

Ergonomics is concerned with the design of objects, systems and environments for human use based on scientific knowledge of human beings. It affects everything where people are involved including furniture, work systems, sports, leisure, health and safety.

FIRA’s ergonomists apply their knowledge of subjects such as anatomy, physiology, psychology and design to ensure that products and environments are comfortable, safe and efficient for people to use. They not only use this expertise to assist with product and work place design but also apply their knowledge to resolve problems associated with the following:

• Display Screen Equipment Regs. (DSE)
• Furniture specifications
• Health and safety audits
• Musculoskeletal disorders (MSD)
