Ergonomics for consumersErgonomics is concerned with the design of objects, systems and environments for human use based on scientific knowledge of human beings. It affects everything where people are involved including furniture, work systems, sports, leisure, health and safety.
The design and manufacture of much of our furniture at work takes account of ergonomic principles. It could be argued that these principles have found less favour in the domestic sector. However, the introduction of the home office, plus improvements in beds, mattresses and chairs, have all contributed to a greater application of ergonomics to consumer products.
