FIRA is pleased to announce that Herman Miller's Sense range of desking has been awarded FIRA's Innovation Award 2008.
The Sense range is a mono-beam range of desking that can be configured in a variety of ways – from individual desks to dealer desk options. The innovative feature of this product was the tool less assembly. Desk can be quickly assembled with no tools, and when necessary disassemble, rebuilt or reconfigured with the minimum of effort.
FIRA’s Head of Commercial Services, Phil Reynolds, said: “The judges were really impressed with this product. A lot of effort has gone into the design and development to ensure that it really can be put together without tools, and unique visual indicators show how to assemble correctly to ensure maximum safety”.
In addition to receiving the Innovation Award, the entire range of Sense desking has been tested at FIRA for compliance with BS EN 527 Parts 1, 2 & 3 and BS 6396, meaning this product range meets all current requirements for office desking.
First awarded in 2002, the FIRA Innovation Award can be gained for an innovative product, component or material in the furniture industry. The award scheme is not a competition, and a company can enter an unlimited number of items for consideration. Unlike other awards, the FIRA Innovation Award is judged on the suitability for intended use as well as innovative features, adding considerable credibility to the scheme.
