Maintenance Technician

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and self-motivated individual to join our team as a Maintenance Engineer within the Testing team at FIRA International Ltd.

The job purpose is to provide maintenance and engineering services to the FIRA testing department and be responsible for the engineering material store.

The key duties/responsibilities for this role include –

  • Arrange and carry out both unscheduled/scheduled maintenance on FIRA test machines and equipment.
  • Development of new and existing test machines.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for the scheduled maintenance programme.
  • Review maintenance activities and plans on a regular basis with liaison and feedback.

You will need to have a recognised mechanical/electrical qualification and have necessary skills.


Senior Adjudicator 

FIRA International Ltd is recognised as one of the world's leading research and technology organisations for the furniture supply chain. FIRA operates The Furniture Ombudsman, an independent conciliation and adjudication scheme for disputes about purchases of new furniture, floorcoverings, and kitchen, bedroom or bathroom installations.

You will lead a team of adjudicators typically handling 150+ cases of varying complexity at any one time, in order to resolve complaints between retailers and consumers in the furniture and related industries. It will be your responsibility to ensure that the legal quality of the advice, adjudication and conciliation work is exceptional and the output of work is carried out as efficiently as possible.

The key accountabilities of the Senior Adjudicator will be to:

  • Manage own caseload of complaints, adjudication reports, conciliation work and independent inspection reports in a disciplined and effective manner
  • Provide sound and timely legal advice to retailers and consumers, keeping abreast of current legislation
  • Develop and maintain good working relations with internal and external clients
  • Work actively with the Head of Service to improve the quality of the legal service provision to clients
  • Minimise complaints regarding legal work undertaken by the adjudicators
  • Provide training on work-related issues as required

In your role as senior you will allocate the workload to the team and ensure their output meets the required standards of fairness and legal accuracy.  Acting as a mentor, you will approve the team’s work as well as actively developing the legal skills and potential of each team member.

The successful candidate will have proven legal abilities with exceptional knowledge of current consumer and contract law. We are looking for a strong, enthusiastic team leader who is passionate for consistently producing high quality output. You will possess first-rate communication skills and be highly organised, capable of prioritising the workload to reach decisions quickly and efficiently.


Project Manager

FIRA International’s success is based on our ability to research, create, develop and deliver new technologies and services within the furniture supply chain.  To enhance this unique position we are seeking a dynamic individual with scientific and technical capabilities combined with project management skills.

You will initially be responsible for working on our patented medium density fibreboard (MDF) recycling technology, which is nearing commercial completion and for developing technologies and markets for recycled wood fibres.  In addition you will be expected to work within our small but focused technical team to develop and manage projects that will deliver profitable opportunities both for our own business and for our clients.

You will have a good honours degree or equivalent in a scientific, environmental or engineering discipline and are likely to have a post-graduate qualification or relevant industrial experience.  The ability to prepare project bids and to operate within a team environment will also be essential.

In return we offer a salary that is commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus contributory pension scheme and private health care insurance after a qualifying period of employment.


Marketing Manager 

FIRA International is looking for an experienced, creative and energetic Marketing Manager to market FIRA services in order to increase net income while maintaining the reputation for independence, impartiality and  integrity

Your main duties will include –

Corporate planning – work with Head of Commercial Services to develop a corporate marketing plan that identifies how the FIRA brand names can be best exploited to maximise net income while maintaining reputation for independence, impartiality and integrity.

Departmental planning – in conjunction with Head of Commercial Services and departmental managers, develop plans and strategies that integrate with the corporate plan, identify the most profitable current services, outline future opportunities and summarise actions to be taken that will maximise net income.

Business development – work with relevant managers and other key staff to ensure the implementation of marketing plans to time, specification and budget.

Marketing activities – plan, arrange and undertake corporate marketing initiatives in accordance with agreed plans, objectives and budgets.

Review – review action plans on a regular basis to reflect changing environment, availability of resources and business performance against agreed objectives.

Customer Service - maintain and develop relationships with existing and new customers – including members, companies and the public – identifying where new services could be developed or existing services improved that will ensure long term growth of income.

Public relations – produce PR and  ensure a constant stream of PR is generated and published. Ensure links are maintained and developed with influential organisations that ensure FIRA is able to lever appropriate support whenever necessary.

Budget Management - manage the relevant departmental budget and contribute costed proposals to the annual budget setting process to ensure income and expenditure targets are met.

Administration - co-ordinate the production of management and customer statistics and reports to time, standard and specification, identifying new ways to collect, present and deliver information as appropriate.
