Testing on the up Professional Engineering has reported how test houses are benefitting from outsourced manufacturing, especially involving goods from China. Toy maker Mattel was forced to recall 9m Chinese made products a year ago, and since then those involved in the manufacture of toys have been a lot more proactive in their approach to testing, the magazine reports. One company has seen growth in its toy testing division up 60% in the first half of this year. This echoes FIRA’s experiences with furniture sourced from the Far East. “Retailers and suppliers are being a lot more vigilant in their approach to higher risk items,” said Mark Bronka, Testing Manager. “Testing for flammability, garden and children’s furniture has shown a significant increase, and it is encouraging to see that companies recognise their obligations to ensure their products meet relevant British and European standards by having them tested by independent experts such as FIRA. email: |
