US Senate pass Formaldehyde Standards

The US Senate has passed the Formaldehyde Standards for Composite Wood Act, which establishes the first national standards for formaldehyde in composite panel.

The bill, which was supported by the Composite Panel Association, transfers the Californian CARB regulation into Federal legislation. The bill has also been through the House of Representatives and will now go to be signed off by the President, after which the Environmental Protection Agency will be instructed to develop a regulation enacting the Bill by 2013.

Supporting standards will come into effect 180 days after the US EPA has published the final regulation - no later than June 30th 2013.
