The Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) is a statutory body accredited to the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities. MTIB was established in 1973 by an Act of Parliament. The main objective is to promote and coordinate the overall development of the timber industry

MTIB is the malaysian government body/ agency which administers, regulates, and oversees business conduct in the timber trade, and is responsible for ensuring quality.
As specifically provided by the Act, MTIB's functions include:
a) To REGULATE and CONTROL the trade in, and the marketing and distribution of timber;
b) To PROMOTE and IMPROVE, the trade in and markets for timber;
c) To CO-ORDINATE activities for effective marketing and shipping of timber;
d) To ENCOURAGE effective utilisation of timber with emphasis on product diversification, and to upgrade processing of timber;
e) To EXTEND technical advisory services and training to assist in the development of existing timber industries and the establishment of new industries;
f) To ASSIST the timber industries in marketing of timber and timber products;
g) To HELP consolidate small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) and integration of activities of timber industries, and effect appropriate technlogy transfer for greater efficiency within the timber industry as a whole;
h)to GATHER information on and maintain records of all relevant matters relating to the timber industry.
MTIB, in carrying out its functions, is empowered to:
a) NEGOTIATE agreements or arrangements considered fit and necessary for carrying out its functions for the promotion of the overall interests of the timber trade and industry;
b) UNDERTAKE marketing on behalf of SMEs;
c) SET UP AND MAINTAIN establishments the Board considers necessary in the discharge of its functions;
d) PRESCRIBE registration application procedures, including fees payable, the conditions and/ or restrictions imposed, and the form/forms of certificate to be issued upon registration;
e) PRESCRIBE standards and methods of seasoning, preserving, grading, bundling/packaging timber, and the grading fees payable;
f) PRESCRIBE minimum standards of hygiene in mills, yards and jetties;
g) PROVIDE for the maintenance of appropriate standards of conduct in the timber trade and for dealing with violations or infringements of such standards.
