Forest Research Institute Of Malaysia (FRIM)
FRIM is the leading forestry research institute of Malaysia, situated in Kepong, just outside Kuala Lumpur. Established in 1929, it boasts 600 staff carrying out research in all aspects of forestry and forest products.
Research in ecology and silviculture is carried out with the objective of developing suitable management and silviculture systems for the forest in Malaysia. Studies conducted are aimed at providing information to enhance the knowledge and understanding the ecology and dynamics of the forests and their responses to logging and other anthropogenic activities.
Research in forest products is focused on more efficient and diversified utilisation of the nations forest resources and in promoting higher operational efficiency in existing production systems by the introduction of innovative technological systems, thereby reducing wood-waste and extending the utilisation of the under-utilised timber species.
